Model 10511 Standard 1/4" Diameter Single Carbon Handpiece

User Information and Instruction Sheet
Summary: Resistance heat is obtained by passing a safe, low voltage, high amperage current through a resistive alloy. As with all Resistance Soldering Handpieces, heat is generated local to the work-piece. Current is present for only so long as power is applied to the Handpiece and there is a path for the current from the Power Unit, through the Handpiece and back to the Power Unit.
Description: Standard Single Carbon Electrode Handpiece. Supplied with a 1/4" x 3” (6.35 mm x 76.2 mm) Copper-Clad Carbon Electrode. This Handpiece features a heavy-duty Bakelite handle for operator comfort and is assembled with Nickel-plated steel heat baffles for cooling and Nickel-plated steel electrode holders for fast efficient heat. It is equipped with a four-foot (1.22 m) 10 AWG high-stranded DLO cable (for flexibility), with a taper pin quick connect terminal for connection to American Beauty® Power Units (push in turning clockwise until snug). The Handpiece weighs only 6 ounces complete, which minimizes operator fatigue. Electrodes may be inserted straight into the Handpiece or at a 45-degree angle, depending on your application requirements.
  • This Handpiece should not be operated above 500 watts.
  • Maximum wattage that is shown reflects a 20-second maximum allowable heating duration. For shorter heating durations, higher wattages may be allowable.
  • Grounding (current-return) lead, or Grounding Fixture, is required in order to complete the electrical circuit for all Single Electrode Handpieces.
Uses: This American Beauty® Soldering Handpiece will instantly provide intense localized heat to create accurate, trustworthy solder joints in a wide variety of soldering applications. It was developed to introduce intense heat to a single localized point of contact. It may be used for general service in electrical equipment manufacture, rework or repair. It may also be used for soldering seams, or for soldering in areas, which may be inaccessible to Tweezer Style Handpieces. By using one of the available electrode adapters listed below, this Handpiece can accommodate most light, or medium-duty soldering applications.

Please reference the General Operating Instructions for American Beauty® Resistance Soldering Systems for more detailed operating instructions and guidelines.

  • The Model 10510 Adapter is used to accommodate the 3/8” x 3” (9.5 mm x 76.2 mm) electrode Model 10527.
  • The Model 10522 Adapter is used to accommodate the 3/16” x 3” (4.8 mm x 76.2 mm) electrode Model 10525.
  • The Model 10523 Adapter is used to accommodate the 1/8” x 3” (3.2 mm x 76.2 mm) electrode Model 10524
Recommended Power Units: This handpiece may be used with the following American Beauty® power units: Model 105A12 (250 Watt), and Model 105B2 (1100 Watt). Use lower power settings when using any of the smaller electrodes for soldering. The use of a Footswitch (Model 10519) for ease of heating time adjustment and control is highly recommended.
Replacement Electrodes/Elements: Model 10526 Single Carbon Electrode (1/4” X 3” (6.35 mm X 76.2 mm)) (Pkg. of 6).

Note: Always keep Electrodes clean and free from burnt flux, oxidation, solder residue and other barriers to electrical conduction by dressing them with a fine grit emery cloth, a fine tooth file or a small wire brush. Replace Electrodes that have become too short or badly burnt.

WARNING: ELECTRODES GENERATE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF HEAT WHEN POWER IS APPLIED. USE WITH CAUTION TO AVOID BURNS, FIRE OR OTHER POTENTIAL DAMAGE. DO NOT OPERATE NEAR COMBUSTABLE MATERIALS. NORMAL USE OF THIS PRODUCT IS LIKELY TO EXPOSE THE USER TO SOLDERS CONTAINING LEAD, WHICH IS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER AND BIRTH DEFECTS (OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM) OR OTHER PROPOSITION 65 LISTED CHEMICALS.
