Model 10506 Standard Capacity Plier-Style Resistance Soldering System

User Information and Instruction Sheet

Summary: This American Beauty® Soldering System has been assembled for your convenience, in order to help eliminate confusion when ordering equipment to be used for most of your high capacity soldering and thermal management applications.

Description: System Description: This System consists of a Model 105A12 (250 watt) Power Unit, a Model 105158 Small High-Heat Carbon Pliers Handpiece and a Model 10519 Footswitch.
  • Power Unit Description: The Model 105A12 Power Unit has a low-voltage, high amperage, variable output, isolated transformer. The output voltage is 0 - 2.8 VAC (with no load). The control knob reads 0 ~100% of output voltage. This Power Unit may be adapted to automated and fixtured production tooling. For more detailed information please read the Information/Instruction sheet included with the Power Unit in this Kit.
  • Handpiece Description: Small High Heat Carbon Electrode Tweezer Style Handpiece. Supplied with two 1/4" x 1/4" x 1-1/2"(6.35 mm x 6.35 mm x 38.1 mm) Carbon Block Electrodes and an Allen wrench for assisting with the replacement of Electrodes. It also features a four-foot (1.22 m) flexible, 14-2 wire HPN neoprene cable (for flexibility), with taper pin quick connect terminals for connection to American Beauty® Power Units (push in turning clockwise until snug). The handles are padded for operator comfort. The Electrode jaws opening is 3/16" (4.76 mm) and may be lightly clamped down onto the work-piece to hold it in place using the Handpieces tweezer-type design. Only light pressure between the carbons and the work piece is necessary to conduct current, in order to provide the resistance path that is required to generate heat. The resistance of the specially formulated carbons is such that even high-temperature solders may be used when required. The tool is ruggedly built of high-grade materials and works best when the setscrews securing the carbons are checked periodically for tightness. For more detailed information please read the Information/Instruction sheet included with the Handpiece in this Kit.
  • Footswitch Description: The Model 10519 Footswitch is a rugged, industrial switch, (wired normally open), with a six-foot (1.83 m) 18-3 SJT cord and NEMA 5-15 P/R piggyback style plug/receptacle. This footswitch is often used, to better control the cycle time needed for an application.

Uses: This System may be used for a wide variety of standard soldering applications. These uses may include, but are not limited to, wire harness assemblies for larger AWGs, copper tubing, semi-rigid coaxial cable connections, micro-wave connections, refrigeration work and terminal attachments up to 3/16" diameter.

Replacement Electrodes/Elements: Model 105159

Duty Cycle: The Power Unit has been rated to operate at a 50% maximum duty cycle. Do not operate beyond this rating. WARNING: THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE OF THE POWER UNIT. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE POWER UNIT HOUSING FOR ANY REASON, DUE TO THE RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. ELEMENTS CAN GENERATE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF HEAT WHEN POWER IS APPLIED. USE WITH CAUTION TO AVOID BURNS, FIRE OR OTHER POTENTIAL DAMAGE. NORMAL USE OF THIS PRODUCT IS LIKELY TO EXPOSE THE USER TO SOLDERS CONTAINING LEAD, WHICH IS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER AND BIRTH DEFECTS (OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM) OR OTHER PROPOSITION 65 LISTED CHEMICALS.
